About Binary to hex converter

Each hexadecimal digit stands for exactly four binary digits, which is why programmers use hex as a compact way to write bit patterns. This converter maps every group of four bits to its hex digit, padding the front with zeros when needed.

Because the conversion works on the bit pattern, leading zeros are kept: 00001010 becomes 0A, not just A, so a byte stays a byte.

How to use it

  1. Enter binary digits. Spaces, underscores and a 0b prefix are ignored.
  2. Optionally group the hex output by byte.
  3. Copy the result, or press Swap to go from hex back to binary.

Good to know

  • Numbers are converted with JavaScript BigInt, so there is no size limit beyond the 1,000,000-character input cap and your device’s memory.
  • Two’s complement is offered at 8, 16, 32 and 64 bits. Values outside the chosen width are rejected rather than silently cut off.
  • Text is always encoded as UTF-8. Other encodings such as UTF-16 or Latin-1 give different bytes for the same characters.

Questions and answers

How do I convert binary to hex by hand?

Split the bits into groups of four from the right, pad the leftmost group with zeros, and replace each group with its hex digit: 0000=0 … 1001=9, 1010=A … 1111=F.

Why is my result one digit longer than expected?

Bits are padded on the left to a multiple of four, so 11111 becomes 0001 1111 and then 1F.

Can I paste numbers with spaces, underscores or a prefix?

Yes. Spaces, tabs, line breaks and underscores are ignored, and a leading 0b (binary) or 0x (hex) prefix is accepted. If a character cannot be read, the error names it and its position.

Is my input sent anywhere?

No. Every conversion runs in your browser; nothing you type leaves your device.
