About Block coding playground

Block coding playground is a beginner-friendly programming space inspired by visual block languages. Instead of typing code, you build scripts from blocks for events, loops, conditions, variables, maths, motion, looks and sensing, and watch your sprites act them out on a 480 × 360 stage.

It is made for learning: the block that is running lights up, Step mode runs one block at a time, a watch panel shows every sprite position and variable as it changes, and mistakes such as an unknown variable or a division by zero come with a plain-language explanation. Three starter projects show a bouncing ball, arrow-key movement and a small catch game with a score.

How to use it

  1. Load a starter template, or start a blank project and pick a sprite.
  2. Choose a block category and click a block to add it where the “new blocks go here” line is, or drag it into a script. Use the + menu beside a value to put maths, sensing or variable blocks inside it.
  3. Press Run. Click the stage, then use the arrow keys or the on-screen keys if your program listens for them. Press Escape or Stop to end it.
  4. Use Pause and Step to follow the program one block at a time, then save the project on this device or export it as a file.

Good to know

  • Programs run only inside this page with a built-in interpreter. They cannot open websites, files or other apps, and loops pause every frame so a forever loop cannot freeze your browser.
  • Projects can have up to 12 sprites, 40 variables and 1,500 blocks. Uploaded costume images are shrunk to 96 pixels and kept with the project.
  • Collisions use each sprite’s bounding box, so “touching” is a close approximation for round or rotated shapes. There are no sounds, clones or custom blocks yet.

Questions and answers

Do I need to know how to code?

No. Every block reads like a short instruction, such as “move 10 steps” or “if key space pressed”. The templates are a good place to start: change a number, press Run and see what happens.

Can I use it with only a keyboard?

Yes. Every block can be added, moved up or down, nested, duplicated and deleted with buttons. Focus a block’s grip and press Alt with Up or Down to move it, or Delete to remove it. Keys reach your program only while the stage has focus.

Where are my projects saved?

In this browser’s storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded. Export a project as a JSON file to keep a backup or move it to another computer, and import it again later.

Is it the same as other block coding apps?

No. It is an independent tool inspired by visual block languages in general, with its own blocks and shapes. Projects from other block editors cannot be imported.
