About GIF maker
GIF maker builds an animated GIF from a set of still images without uploading them. Add PNG, JPEG or WebP files, drag them into order, give each frame its own delay, and choose the output size, loop count and whether images are fitted, filled or stretched into the frame.
The encoder runs entirely in your browser: each frame is reduced to the best 256-colour palette for that frame and compressed with the LZW scheme that the GIF format uses, so the file opens in any browser, chat app or image viewer.
How to use it
- Add two or more images.
- Reorder the frames and set a delay for each, or apply one delay to all.
- Choose the output width and height, the fit mode and how many times the animation loops.
- Press Create GIF, preview the result and download it.
Good to know
- Up to 60 frames and 800 × 800 pixels per GIF. Each input image can be up to 25 MB.
- GIF supports at most 256 colours per frame, so photos and smooth gradients show some banding or dithering.
- Transparency in the source images is flattened onto the background colour you choose.
Questions and answers
Why is my GIF file large?
GIF compression works best on flat colours. Photographs, noise and many frames make files grow quickly. Reduce the size, use fewer frames or turn off dithering to shrink it.
What delay should I use?
100 ms (0.1 s) per frame is a smooth slideshow-style animation; 500–1,500 ms suits a slideshow of separate pictures. Some viewers treat delays under 20 ms as 100 ms.
Can I make a GIF from a video?
Not with this tool. It combines still images. Export frames from your video player first, then add them here.
