About Hex to binary converter

Paste a hexadecimal value, with or without 0x, and see the exact bits it represents. Each hex digit becomes four binary digits, so leading zeros stay visible and the bit count always matches the number of hex digits.

It is handy for reading colour codes, memory dumps, flags and network masks bit by bit.

How to use it

  1. Enter a hex value; letters can be upper or lower case.
  2. Group the bits by 4 or 8, or show them as one string.
  3. Copy the binary, or press Swap to convert binary back to hex.

Good to know

  • Numbers are converted with JavaScript BigInt, so there is no size limit beyond the 1,000,000-character input cap and your device’s memory.
  • Two’s complement is offered at 8, 16, 32 and 64 bits. Values outside the chosen width are rejected rather than silently cut off.
  • Text is always encoded as UTF-8. Other encodings such as UTF-16 or Latin-1 give different bytes for the same characters.

Questions and answers

What does 0xFF look like in binary?

11111111: F is 1111, so two F digits are eight 1 bits, one full byte.

Can I convert a hex colour like #3B82F6?

Remove the # and convert 3B82F6 to see its 24 bits: eight each for red, green and blue.

Can I paste numbers with spaces, underscores or a prefix?

Yes. Spaces, tabs, line breaks and underscores are ignored, and a leading 0b (binary) or 0x (hex) prefix is accepted. If a character cannot be read, the error names it and its position.

Is my input sent anywhere?

No. Every conversion runs in your browser; nothing you type leaves your device.
