About Image Studio

Image Studio is a canvas editor for the jobs that come up every week: cropping a screenshot to the part that matters, circling a button in a support message, putting a caption on a photo, or making a picture lighter and sharper before it goes into a document. Open an image from your files, drop it onto the workspace or paste it from the clipboard, and work in layers so the original stays untouched underneath your marks.

Drawing, shapes and highlights go on their own annotation layers, text stays editable until you export, and brightness, contrast and colour changes are previewed live and only written into the picture when you press Apply. Undo and redo cover every step. When you are done, choose PNG, JPEG or WebP, set the quality and see the real file size before you download. Nothing is uploaded: the image is decoded and edited inside your browser.

How to use it

  1. Choose an image, drag one onto the workspace or paste one with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac). You can also start from a blank canvas.
  2. Pick a tool from the left rail: move, crop, brush, highlighter, eraser, rectangle, ellipse, line, arrow or text. Tool options appear in the panel on the right.
  3. Use the Adjust panel for brightness, contrast, saturation, exposure, hue, grayscale and sepia, then press Apply. Resize, rotate and flip are in the Image panel.
  4. Manage layers in the Layers panel: rename them, hide them, change their opacity, move them up or down, or delete them.
  5. Open Export, choose the format and quality, check the file size and download. Save the project on this device if you want to keep editing later.

Good to know

  • Images up to 40 MB and 40 megapixels (at most 16,384 pixels per side) can be opened. Safari on iPhone and iPad may refuse very large canvases; if an image will not open there, resize it first.
  • Supported inputs are PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF (first frame only) and BMP. Exports are PNG, JPEG or WebP; WebP export depends on your browser, and older Safari versions save PNG instead.
  • Undo history keeps up to 40 steps. Large images use more memory per step, so fewer steps may be kept for very big pictures.
  • Projects saved on this device stay in this browser only. Clearing site data or using a private window removes them.
  • Text uses fonts already installed on your device, so it can look slightly different on another computer until you export it.

Questions and answers

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The image is read and edited by your browser on your own device. HandyTechHelper never receives the file, the edits or the exported result.

Can I change a crop or a caption after I have applied it?

Use undo (Ctrl+Z, or ⌘Z on a Mac) to step back through up to 40 changes. Text layers stay editable until you export, so you can change the wording, size or colour at any time.

Which export format should I choose?

PNG keeps every pixel and supports transparency, which suits screenshots and graphics. JPEG gives the smallest files for photos but has no transparency. WebP is usually smaller than JPEG at the same quality and keeps transparency, but some older software cannot open it.

Does it keep the photo’s EXIF data or location?

No. Exported images are drawn fresh from the canvas, so camera details, timestamps and GPS location in the original file are not copied into the download.

Is there a keyboard shortcut list?

Yes. V move, C crop, B brush, M highlighter, E eraser, R rectangle, O ellipse, L line, A arrow, T text and H hand. Ctrl+Z undoes, Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y redoes, + and − zoom, 0 fits the image to the screen and Delete removes the selected layer.
