HTH Music Maker Plus
Compose melodies and beats on a note grid with synthesised instruments, save songs on this device, and export them as WAV audio or MIDI files.
About HTH Music Maker
HTH Music Maker is a grid for sketching tunes. Each row is a note from the scale you pick, each column is a step in time, and the rows at the bottom are a small drum kit. Tap cells to place notes, drag sideways to hold a note longer, and press play to hear it loop.
Every sound is synthesised in your browser with the Web Audio API, so there are no samples to download. When a song is ready you can save it on this device, export a WAV recording of exactly what you hear, or export a MIDI file to keep working on it in a music program.
How to use it
- Choose a scale, key, tempo and instrument, and how many bars and steps you want.
- Click or tap cells to add notes. Drag right from a note to make it longer; tap a note again to remove it. Add kick, snare, clap and hi-hat hits in the drum rows.
- Press Play to listen. Turn on Loop to keep it going while you edit.
- Name and save the song on this device, or export it as WAV audio or a MIDI file.
Good to know
- Songs can be up to 16 bars long, with one instrument for the melody plus the drum rows.
- Saved songs live in this browser’s local storage. Clearing site data removes them, and they do not sync between devices.
- MIDI files store notes, tempo and instrument numbers, not the sound itself, so they will sound different in other programs.
- Sound needs a browser with the Web Audio API. Nothing plays until you press Play.
Questions and answers
How do I make a note longer?
Press on an empty cell and drag to the right before you let go. You can also drag from an existing note to change its length. With the keyboard, move the cursor onto a note and press Shift with the left or right arrow.
Can I use the keyboard instead of a mouse?
Yes. Click or tab into the grid, then use the arrow keys to move the cursor and Space or Enter to add or remove a note. Press Space anywhere else on the page to play or pause. Ctrl+Z (or ⌘Z) undoes the last change.
What is the difference between the WAV and MIDI exports?
WAV is a recording of the song exactly as you hear it here, ready to share or play anywhere. MIDI holds the notes themselves, so you can open it in a music program, change the instruments and keep editing.
Are my songs uploaded?
No. The music is made and saved on your device. Saved songs stay in this browser until you delete them or clear its site data.
