Help and answers

Answers to questions that apply across HandyTechHelper’s 88 tools. For a specific tool, its own page has step-by-step instructions and fixes. Still stuck? Send us a message.

Getting started

How do I find the right tool?

Use the search box on the homepage, or press / or Ctrl + K (⌘ + K on a Mac) on any page. Search understands everyday words, so “make photo smaller” finds the image compressor. You can also browse by category from All tools.

Do I need an account?

No. All 80 free tools work without an account or sign-up. A free account only adds conveniences: batch processing of up to 5 images at once, favorites synced between devices, saved presets and optional history.

What does each tool page contain?

The tool itself comes first. Below it you’ll find numbered steps, what the tool accepts and its limits, worked examples, fixes for common problems and answers to common questions, written for that specific tool.

Your files and privacy

Are my files uploaded?

No, not for the image, PDF, text, developer, everyday, creative and media tools. They process files in your browser, on your own device. The guide to browser-based processing explains how this works and how to check it yourself.

What does use the server?

Signing in, synced favorites, presets and history, payments (through Stripe’s hosted checkout), the developer API and server batch jobs on paid plans, and the contact form. The privacy page covers each one, including our visit statistics.

Are my originals changed?

Never. Every tool creates a new file for you to download and leaves the original untouched. Keep your original when you compress or convert, so you can export again at a different setting.

Do the tools work offline?

Often, yes. After you’ve opened a tool once while online, your browser may keep a copy so it works without a connection. Clearing your browser’s site data removes that copy.

When something goes wrong

Nothing downloads when I press Download.

Check whether your browser blocked the download or asked where to save it. On iPhone and iPad, Safari saves downloads to the Downloads folder in the Files app. Private or restricted browser modes can also block downloads.

A large file fails or the page becomes slow.

Browser tools use your device’s memory. Close other tabs, try a smaller file, or resize big photos first. Each tool lists its own limits under “Good to know”; for example, PDF tools accept up to 30 MB and 300 pages.

My PDF won’t open.

Password-protected or encrypted PDFs can’t be opened in the browser. Remove the protection in the program that created the PDF, if you’re allowed to, and try again. A damaged PDF can often be fixed by opening it and saving or printing it to PDF again.

My image won’t open.

Most image tools accept PNG, JPEG and WebP. HEIC photos from iPhones need converting first; on an iPhone, setting Camera → Formats to “Most Compatible” saves new photos as JPEG. Animated images are not supported by the static image tools.

Copying to the clipboard doesn’t work.

Some browsers only allow copying after you click, or block it in embedded or private windows. Use the tool’s download button instead.

The site looks broken or out of date.

Reload the page. If that doesn’t help, clear this site’s data in your browser settings, which also clears the offline copy. Then let us know through the contact form.

Accounts and plans

How do I sign in?

With your email address and password, or with Continue with Google where it’s offered. On a new device we also ask for a one-time code, sent by email or from an authenticator app.

What do the paid plans add?

Plus is a one-time $5 purchase that unlocks Image Studio, PDF Studio and several creative tools. Pro ($5 a month) and Pro Max ($10 a month) add the Simple Video Editor, server tools and the developer API. Every basic tool stays free. The pricing page has the full list.

How do I cancel Pro or Pro Max?

Any time, from the Subscription section of your account. You keep access until the end of the period you’ve paid for and won’t be charged again.

Who handles my card details?

Stripe. Checkout happens on Stripe’s hosted payment page, and HandyTechHelper never sees or stores your card number.

How do I delete my account?

From your account settings. Deleting it removes your favorites, presets and history. If you have a question about your data, use the contact form.
